Whether you need a morning latte, a double shot espresso or a cappuccino with 7 sugars, Fitzroy has got you covered for coffee. You won’t find a Starbucks or coffee chain shops here – it is all about good, real coffee.
Here are our recommendations:
Alimentari
251 Brunswick St, Fitzroy
302 Smith St, Collingwood
Alimentari has two cafes serving excellent coffee. You can also get delicious food here – it’s a deli, so they serve a range of delicious salads, wraps and sandwiches as well as having a café menu from which you can order eggs and other breakfast delights.

Tell me, have you ever been served coffee from a 1965 silver Airstream van? Yeah, I didn’t think so. So you should probably go to Grub in order to experience this. It’s a funky, chilled out place with delicious coffee and food. It’s as hipster as Fitzroy gets.

Saturday, Sunday: 9am-3pm
Brunettis
380 Lygon St, Carlton
This Italian café is not actually in Fitzroy, it’s in Carlton, so it’s done well to sneak into a Fitzroy café line-up. However, it’s still very close to Fitzroy and is worth a visit, being a Melbourne favourite that has been open for over 30 years – the owner Giorgio is still working at the café. They make a big range of delicious sandwiches, pizza and sweets too!

Friday, Saturday: 6am-midnight
Babka
358 Brunswick St, Fitzroy
This cute, unassuming bakery has been a popular choice with Melburnians for years – the coffee is good, but they are best known for their cakes, slices and bread. If you’re looking for coffee and cake, this is the place to go.

This super chilled café/bar is the perfect spot to plop down and chill out over a coffee (or a beer later on in the night). Their couches are dangerously comfortable, plus there’s free wifi!

Industry Beans
62 Rose St, Fitzroy
Industry Beans screams trendiness and hipsterness (is that a word?). The coffee is top notch, and the brunch meals at Industry Beans have featured in Lonely Planet’s ‘World’s Best Brunches’, so you know you’re in good hands. It’s very popular, but has a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating.
